Meeting and training calendar for Pack leadership and other adult volunteers. Includes local, Council, District, and Pack events.
It takes many adult volunteers to make Shirley Cub Scouts successful. Parent Committee meetings are generally held one Sunday per month at 6:00 PM. If you would like to join a committee meeting please email us at shirleycubscouts@gmail.com for more details.
Roundtable is an opportunity to connect with other units and the district/council leadership. There's usually announcements, a brief training, and some breakout discussions. It's a great way to stay informed.
Be sure to check the council calendar for exact date and location of each monthly Roundtable event. General pattern for District Roundtable has been second Monday of the month in Fitchburg. https://commerce.hnebsa.org/events/

The website for all training is my.scouting.org.
Training courses are available for each leadership positions on my.scouting.org. NEW: All leaders will be required to be fully trained, including YPT and position specific training, to process our unit charter for 2024. Most of the modules of position specific trainings do not expire, YPT and Hazardous Weather are exceptions.
All leaders with direct contact with youth must maintain Hazardous Weather Training in order to be fully trained. This module covers hazardous weather conditions that Scouts need to plan ahead and steps to take to be prepared. This training must be renewed every year.
BSA groups shall use Safe Swim Defense for all swimming activities. The adult leader supervising a swimming activity must have completed training within the previous two years. At least one leader must be current in this training in order for us to hold the annual pack pool party.
Heart of New England Council is offering BALOO Training on... (usually one session in fall and one in spring)
BALOO can be taken at any council if you are interested and cannot make this date, ask Jen to help you find a training.
BALOO training is adult Cub Scout leader training for leading pack camping trips. Anyone in a leadership role can be the BALOO trained leader (Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leader, Assistant Den Leader, or Committee Member). All Cub Scout packs must have at least one BALOO trained leader on any pack camping trip. Additionally, each Webelos (grade 4) or Arrow of Light (grade 5) den should have a BALOO trained leader to take their den camping. (Therefore, it is best to have a BALOO trained leader in each den before the end of Bear year so the den can camp in the fall). Having multiple trained leaders gives the group coverage in case of unexpected illness or schedule changes.
BALOO training is made up of a brief online training plus a two day in person course. Overnight camping is part of the course. Councils generally schedule these trainings in the spring and fall. There is a small fee, which the Pack will reimburse if requested. Food is usually provided (make sure when you register). You will need personal camping gear.

Several adventures for cub scouts were retired in May of 2022, but no new adventures were created to replace them. These adventures might still be listed in handbooks and leader guides. Retired adventures cannot count toward rank advancement (we can't enter them in Scoutbook). If a scout or den does a retired adventure we might be able to purchase the loop or pin while supplies last.
