In Cub Scouts, a child progresses from rank to rank, learning new skills as they go. Each rank teaches kids important lessons to prepare them for growing up. The higher the rank, the more challenging its requirements.
Lion - Kindergarten age children.
Working with their parents or guardians and their dens, Lion Scouts complete a number of required adventures to earn the Lion rank.
No matter what age or grade a child joins Cub Scouting, they must earn the Bobcat rank before they officially enter the den of Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos. Bobcat will generally be the first thing a Scout moving from Lion to Tiger, or a new Scout joining the Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos Dens, will earn.
Tiger - 1st Grade children.
Working with their parents or guardians and their dens, Tiger Scouts complete a number of required and elective adventures to earn the Tiger rank.
Wolf - 2nd Grade children.
Working with their parents or guardians and their dens, Wolf Scouts complete a number of required and elective adventures to earn the Wolf rank.
Bear - 3rd Grade children.
Working with their parents or guardians and their dens, Bear Scouts complete a number of required and elective adventures to earn the Bear rank.
Webelos - 4th grade children.
"Webelos" stands for "We'll Be Loyal Scouts," The Webelos program is designed to prepare scouts to join a BSA Troop. In during the first year of Webelos, scouts complete a number of required and elective adventures to earn the Webelos rank
Arrow of Light - 5th grade children
Sometimes referred to as Webelos 2, scouts in fifth grade work towards earning the Arrow of Light , the highest award in Cub Scouts. Arrow of Light adventures further prepare a Scout to join a BSA Troop, including visiting local Troops.
